Family and Relationship Mediation

Mediation helps people with opposing opinions  to  think about the agreement they would like and break down their objections or requests  into easy to understand respectful  statements which will be responded to less negatively than previous attempts of communication.

It ensures opposing parties hear or receive clear messages from each other so they can work together to  find acceptable solutions without loosing face.

 What is a Mediator ?

An experienced mediator  is a skillful, professionally trained facilitator. Their job is to help people  communicate their needs clearly in a way that will be responded to positively by the opposing party or parties.

The Mediator will chair  any meetings that take place between the  opposing parties to ensure equal uninterrupted time to speak.  They will keep the meetings energised and focused on finding solutions.

Their job is to help parties  decide what kind agreement they need, understand and outline the position of each side and to systematically discuss resolution on each point.

A Mediator can pass messages and information between parties who are unable or unwilling to meet.

Mediators are impartial and strive  to balance the  interests of all parties.

Why use a Mediator  ?

Mediators do not take sides,   they help people feel more confident about the future and finding a way forward.  They help people take the steps needed to  establish useful and practical communication   without the discussion becoming an argument or going round in circles avoiding the real issues.

Keep parties focused  on finding solutions,  writing and re framing agreement points to remind parties of what has been agreed and helping parties express their needs calmly and respectfully to rebuild trust and understanding.

Strained relationships can be rebuilt and strengthened.

Can define acceptable and unacceptable behavior.

"Clear the air", helps parties move on and focus on the future.

Mediation is preferable to litigation because it attracts less negativity and bitterness.

It gives the  parties an opportunity to make an agreement they are comfortable with, rather than leaving the details of their families future in the hands of  strangers.

The agreement made during mediation is not  a legally binding agreement.   The agreement can form the basis of a legally binding agreement at a later date, if appropriate and both parties agree.

Mediators can help you  resolve matters within a matter of weeks, sometimes days or hours.
